Short Message Services (SMS)

Bulk SMS messaging consists of large volumes of SMS messages, with either one message to all recipients, or a unique (personalised) message to each recipient. Transmission of bulk messages can be done via our various desktop applications or via our Online SMS Portal. Replies and status reports (indicating whether or not the message was accepted by the operator, and delivered to the device) are also correlated with the original outgoing messages. We have various entry points into the mobile operators to ensure up-time and message delivery, both locally and internationally. The foundational MobiSys™ High Performance Distributed Mobile (H.P.D.M) Platform, upon which the SMS Gateway is built, can enrich business with mobile abilities like no other. It has been hardened and enhanced by SMS Cellular Services (Pty) Ltd in strong collaboration with our enterprise clients over the past 15 years. In real terms, an SMS Gateway is but one of many functional compositions that the MobiSys™ Platform is able to facilitate, and our team of professionals are working round the clock on enhancements in keeping with technology trends. The SMS Gateway is one functional compositions of the MobiSys™ High Performance Distributed Mobile (H.P.D.M) Platform. The core ability that facilitates extreme ROI on this platform is the ease with which it securely extends/isolates functionality and integration-points.

Core Features of the SMS Gateway
Extension of SMS features and protocols can be done through the APIs exposed by the MobiSys framework upon which the SMS Gateway is built. Through a programming in the large model, functional extensions can be done rather simply in the Microsoft Development Stack.
Two-way SMS Messaging
Sending and receiving messages can be done with or without the use of tagging.
GSM Modem Support
GSM Modem support modules exist that can drive a variety of modems. The platform does not have connection limitations, though to fully utilise the sophistication of this platform IP-Based SMS delivery is strongly recommended.
Premium Rated SMS
Premium Rated SMS Messaging, which is typically Mobile Originating, is fully supported.
SMSC Protocol Support
The full SMPP v 3.4 as well as parts of the ESMS protocols are supported.
SMS formats
All SMS encodings specified in the SMPP v 3.4 specification are supported, including but not limited to 7, 8, and 16 bit.
Multipart SMS Messages
Long message transmission and reception technologies/methodologies are supported. Each individual part of the multi part messages can also be tracked and audited.
Multiple Instance Deployment on Singular Servers
Instance intelligence allows the platform to be setup as isolated instances on the same server for the desired purpose. Most common use of this is to facilitate staging areas for updates and enhancements.
SMSC Connections
Because of the componentized nature of MobiSys there are no inherent connection limitations, the only applicable limitation will reside in the operating system and hardware substrates.
Status Reports
Status reports for both first and second statuses are supported alongside configurable coding tables, should custom SMSC implementations exist.
Multi-Faceted Flexible
Message routing can be accomplished for individual or groups of client/user accounts or ports, or based on source or destination address of the message. Apart from this message object can routed via both custom and standard functional components for filtering, keyword detection, and so on as well.
Number Portability Capabilities
This is cater for number porting requirements in which the system can import porting records to allow accurate routing the correct Mobile Network Operator. In cases where Mobile Network Operators (or Carriers) face inter-connect fees, aggregation or least-cost routing, this feature become essential for viable business.
Active Directory Integration
Additional modules can be added to synchronise authentication for users or clients with Active Directory Identity stores.
Super high performance fully auditable transaction records
An optimised file based database is the foundation of the auditable transaction records for the platform. Synchronisation of data for centralised reporting is done by an accompanying windows service that is deployed.
Email to SMS
Additional modules can be added to perform high volume email to SMS conversions for integration legacy system integration.
File to SMS
Bulk and singular message transmission can be done via simple file system integration.
Service Orientation
REST, SOAP, and JSON based services are supported for sending and receiving SMS messages in an asynchronous way and reliably persisted manner. This can both be used and on-sold as either instance based or Platform-as-a-Service.
Web Based Enterprise Client
The Web client is HTML5 and .NET4.5 MVC based, it consists of address books, scheduling, bulk and single sends. It has rolls and rights control on a feature-by-feature basis, reporting facilities for varying levels of business intelligence granularities, i.e. by company, by departments, by users, etc. Credit and payment integration is also catered for. Flexible Deployment and Hosting By virtue of the component architecture of this platform deployment and hosting can be arranged in a multitude of ways to cater for specific functional load profiles. For instance, if a country has a very complex ported number eco-system, then that functionality could be boosted. In another case, if client integration points have to be isolated into a DMZ, or certain functions have to be made highly available, then components can be suitable arrange, and load balanced across.
Auditing and Logging
Microsoft Event and Resource Management and Monitoring facilities are fully supported by the platform. High performance transaction audit records are also produced by the platform for end-to-end traceability of messages throughout the system.

Short-codes (31099)

Short code services consist of a 5 digit number (XXXXX) to which a messages can be sent. This option is very popular for lead generation, competitions, keyword campaigns, content, and subscription services. SMS messages to a short code is charged either at normal SMS bundle rates (for standard rated) or at a pre-specified rate (for premium-rated). We have various options available for transferring inbound SMS to our clients, including e-mail, file transfer protocol (FTP) and web/SOAP services.

Multi-Media Messaging (MMS)

MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services) are messages that are more than simply a combination of audio, video, and text. MMS messages can be thought of as the Powerpoint of the mobile messaging space with its ability to orchestrate the layout (sizing, placing, etc.) of media into MMS slides. The underlying technology can also control transition between slides, thus multiple product adverts can be combined into one and sent to your client base. Although compatibility with client devices has to be managed, MMS also allows the transmission of calendar appointments, contact information and more. Reception of MMS messages also hold much potential for lead generation and competitions requiring media submissions. MMS is charged based on the size of the message. Apart from the transmission of these MMS campaigns we also offer guidance and consultation to the various media, advertising, marketing and channel companies that may be involved in MMS campaigns.

USSD Application

USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) channels have become well known for their application in banking, RICA services, prepaid airtime sales, and mobile content sales. USSD services are ideal for menu driven channels such as client or technical support services, product offering menus, logistics application, banking, etc. Apart from menu driven applications, USSD services can also be used for lead generation as well as keyword driven campaigns. USSD charges come in three forms: standard rated (at 20c per 20 seconds to the subscriber), premium-rated (at a set premium cost to the subscriber), or reverse billed, meaning the service provider (not the subscriber) pays.

Hosted GSM Modems

Hosted modem services give an organisation the ability to have a virtual cellphone. The most popular use of these services, by far, is the “Please-call-me” entry points. With the ability to receive “Please-call me” messages, an organisation can advertise a “free” number to their clients to request new, or query existing, products and services. Modems can be bought or leased from CellSys and are then hosted in our various 24/7 supported hosting environments. Messages received on these modems can also be converted into a variety of formats that are delivered directly into your organisation or its client and technical support centers. CellSys currently has modem hosting facilities in South Africa as well as various African countries.
